My grandmother would tell us stories about Lougawous, witches and shapeshifters would use magic to steal bad children. They would bring sickness and bad fortune to the community. I was frightened of these creatures, but also curious about what they would do in the darkness of the night. Were they poor doomed souls or were they living unhinged?
